August 9th was a service above self day for our club.
Members had an amazing time serving children from food insecure families for the GRACE Grapevine "Feed our Kids" lunch program. During the summer break from school, Feed our Kids provides lunches for childern whose families are eligible for their children to recieve lunch at school for free when the school is in session. During the summer break in Southlake, the Feed our Kids program organized by Grace Grapevine, fills that need through community volunteers and donations.
On August 9th, members of the Southlake Rotary Club volunteered to purchase, prepare and distribute the lunches to the kids. We are grateful to be able to partner with Texas Regional Bank who donated funds for bottled water and hot dogs.
Our efforts served kids on Aug 9th. Several other community organizations and hundreds of other volunteers served the kids during summer break in June, July and the days prior to school starting in August.
According to Grace Grapevine Facebook page, the 2024 Feed Our Kids project together with all the community volunteers and donors passed out 36,140 lunches. Its organizers noted that "None of this would have been possible without the help of our amazing volunteers, individuals, families, civic and church groups, and businesses all came together in support of our community. They prepped, picked, pre-ordered, and provided countless lunches all while enduring this brutal heat. The Texas sun may be bright, but the compassion of our volunteers shines brighter. THANK YOU!"
