Under the auspices of the 2019-20 Rotary International’s presidential theme, “Rotary Connects the World,” the Southlake Rotary Club initiated selection and recognition each quarter our of our "Rotarian of the Quarter" Club Advocate. With the theme of ‘connection’ to our communities and helping those in need” at the heart of each Rotarian’s service commitment, the Board of the Southlake Rotary has chosen John Pichler, as our 4th quarter “Rotarian of the Quarter.” John exemplifies the values of Rotary, including service above self, fellowship, leadership, and a passion for others.
“If you want something done, ask a busy person,” is a popular mantra, but when it comes to the Southlake Rotary, asking a busy person is not necessary because John Pichler never has to be asked. This busy person is a ready volunteer. Because of this, John has been named Southlake Rotarian of the Quarter.
“He’s always so busy that I have no idea how he makes time for so much,” said Southlake Club President Dana White. “But he’s always the go-to person in our club, and it’s really nice.”
John has been a Rotarian for 21 years, beginning with his March 1998 membership in the Metroport Rotary Club. Fifteen years ago, he co-founded the Southlake Rotary Club, and between the two clubs, he has served as President, Treasurer, Sergeant-At-Arms, Foundation Chair, and Programs Manager, a position he currently holds.
Dana said the club has long been eager to recognize John as Rotarian of the Quarter but because he so often attends the club’s board meetings, he tends to request someone else be so honored. Fortunately, John was unable to attend a recent board meeting, so without his dissent, the board jumped on the opportunity to honor him. “It’s been a long time coming,” Dana said.
Along with Phyllis Catton, John recently co-chaired the 2019 Department of Public Safety Appreciation Event, the club’s largest fundraiser and the most successful on record. Not only did he co-chair the event, but as an owner of a small commercial sign company, he also provided the signage for the event. He founded Identitec in Southlake 22 years ago. Coupled with his desire to serve an organization that effects positive changes locally and globally, John enjoys the fellowship of other Rotarians.
John has married to his “ever supportive” wife, Sherry, for 38 years. They have two adult children and one grandchild. John is looking forward to one day scaling back his daily business responsibilities in order to travel and devote more time to Rotary. Congratulations, John Pichler, Rotarian of the Quarter.
