Southlake Rotary Club Recognizes incoming Rotary President Dave Harrow as “Rotarian of the Quarter – 2nd Quarter of 2020!!!!

Under the auspices of the 2019-20 Rotary International’s presidential theme, “Rotary Connects the World,” the Southlake Rotary Club initiated selection and recognition each quarter our of our "Rotarian of the Quarter" Club Advocate. With the theme of ‘connection’ to our communities and helping those in need” at the heart of each Rotarian’s service commitment, the Board of the Southlake Rotary has chosen incoming President Dave Harrow, as our 2nd quarter “Rotarian of the Quarter.” Dave exemplifies the values of Rotary, including service above self, fellowship, leadership, and a passion for others.
Dave Harrow readily admits he knew little about Rotary when he became a member in 2019. “The reason I joined the Rotary was as a way to network with other like-minded professionals,” he said.
So, he must have been wondering how he landed at Lone Star PETS Training Program a year later, not only surrounded by like-mined professionals, but professionals preparing to lead their local clubs.
PETS – as in President-Elect Training Seminar -- is where Dave found himself Feb. 27-March 1 at the DFW Hyatt Hotel. Because of his commitment to preparing and becoming the President-Elect, Dave Harrow has been named the Southlake Club Rotarian of the Quarter.
“I think he is a great Rotarian that will be a good leader for the upcoming year,” President Dana White said.
Dave said that while originally looking to network, it did not take long for him to see Rotary for its far-reaching scope.
“I soon discovered it was so much more than just a networking group,” Dave said. “The Rotary is the perfect venue for me to give back to the community I live in while enjoying the camaraderie of positive and active individuals.”
Originally from California, Dave graduated from the University of the Redlands with a degree in management. Dave started out in the recruiting industry, a business he learned from his father who owned a staffing company, a company Dave joined after serving in the U.S. submarine force for the United States Navy.
The business brought Dave to Texas in 1995 to serve as Director. He was later named Vice President, and in technical recruiting, he specialized in staffing for the aircraft and aerospace industry. After 33 years, Dave retired and formed a RE/MAX real estate business in Southlake with his wife, Lisa, (also a member of the Southlake Rotary Club), fulfilling a long-time goal to work together.
The skills Dave acquired in the recruiting industry have served him well in the real estate business, resulting in what he terms, “a smooth transition.” Those skill will continue to serve Dave as he prepares to become President of the Southlake Rotary Club.
“It is especially rewarding to see Rotarians from all walks of life come together to provide Serve Above Self and be a part of something that is much bigger than yourself,” Dave said. “It also means that you are a member of a diverse, worldwide team whose members together have provided extraordinary service to humanity.”
Dave also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the next club president. “I have some big shoes to fill as Dana has done a wonderful job in her role as president,” he said. As for his goals, he said he’d like to continue Dana’s efforts to grow the club’s membership. “In addition, I have been thinking that it might be interesting to team up with another club and work on a bigger project that could benefit both communities that our clubs are a part of.”
