Under the auspices of the 2019-20 Rotary International’s presidential theme, “Rotary Connects the World,” the Southlake Rotary Club initiated selection and recognition each quarter our of our "Rotarian of the Quarter" Club Advocate. With the theme of ‘connection’ to our communities and helping those in need” at the heart of each Rotarian’s service commitment, the Board of the Southlake Rotary has chosen Dr. Sean Cerone, as our 1st quarter “Rotarian of the Quarter.” Sean exemplifies the values of Rotary, including service above self, fellowship, leadership, and a passion for others.
Last November, Sean Cerone hosted a party. It was an atypical party, considering nearly a dozen Southlake Rotarians were invited to his dental office to affix Rotary stickers onto hundreds of dictionaries to be distributed to area schools. While Rotarians did the light work, pasting stickers onto books, Sean did the heavy lifting. He not only led the endeavor, he unloaded boxes full of dictionaries and hauled them into his office for processing.
When the work was done, Sean treated everyone to pizza. But the real treat for Rotarians was the opportunity to work with Sean, a dedicated Rotarian who, as a result of his leadership, has been named Southlake Rotarian of the Quarter. “I think there were multiple other members that contributed more to our club in that time frame than myself, but I humbly and gratefully accept the recognition,” Sean said.
Sean, a dentist based in Southlake since 1996, was a charter member of the Southlake Rotary Club, extending to 2004. Since then, he has been involved in most every event the club has sponsored. In addition to his work with dictionary distribution, he has participated in DPS Appreciation Day, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, and trash pick-up. He also has served as club president, secretary, and sergeant-at-arms.
Club President Dana White stated: “I nominated Sean as our club’s 1st Quarter Rotarian of the Quarter to recognize his phenomenal commitment, diligence and dedication to the education and literacy of our area children. Sean goes above and beyond to ensure that every 3rd grader receives his or her own dictionary, which they are very thrilled to receive. Spearheading numerous projects, including arranging our club’s ringing of the bells for the Salvation Army, and bringing his children to help on Saturday trash-pick up’s, I applaud Sean for all the work he does on behalf of Rotary and our community.”
Although Sean came to Rotary independent of family Rotary connections, it is the relationships that most appeal to him while working in service to others. “I truly enjoy the relationships we build with each other in our Southlake Rotary Club,” he said. “I like best that we have a relatively small club. A somewhat small group of “charter” members and a desire to grow the club into a larger community.”
During Sean’s time as president, the Southlake Rotary Club was “recognized in the district for many of the projects we spearheaded,” Sean said. “For a club our size, we get a fair amount of recognition.”
